The Pyrenees:

The mountains - and many fabulous resorts - are just an hours' drive to the South.

Clean air, spectacular views, climbing, biking & walking in Summer, followed by a relaxing swim in the pool. Downhill and cross-country skiing in winter - and then back to a roaring log fire....

Carcassonne:

Carcassonne, just 45 minutes from Quillan, is a beautiful town with an excellent shopping area. The mediaeval twin-walled old city of Carcassonne, 'La Cite', a World Heritage Site,  has 52 towers and 365 windows, and a moat with drawbridge. This mediaeval city is complete with dungeons (in the horror museum), artisans and 'ateliers', craft shops, restaurants, pavement cafés and galleries. There is the cathedral in the centre which can be reached on foot or by horse-drawn carriage.

Andorra:

Andorra - just under two hours to the south-west of Quillan - is a tax haven excellent for stocking up on shopping and petrol (45p a litre) and has some of the best skiing in the Pyrenees... Why not see it for yourselves
